Tartaric acid can be used to influence the hardness of the dye or mordant pot.

It decreases the Ph level and makes it more acid.

Also good to combine with Iron sulphate mordant https://classicfabrics.nl/product/iron-sulfate/  to soften the result.

Tartaric acid usually enhances the brightness and give more vivid deep colours on wool and silk.
