Cochineal differs from most natural dyes because it isn’t plant-based. Cochineal is a tiny insect with the Latin name Dactylopius coccus. Use from 3 to 10% w.o.f. ( weight of fabric ) to get nice strong pink colours.

You can alter the colour to red or purple shades with acid or base chemicals like vinegar and soda.
